Safeguarding

Twogere respects the dignity of every individual and advocates the welfare and safety of the most vulnerable in society.

We undertake a coordinated approach to protect vulnerable individuals who may be impacted or affected by our work. We live by this safeguarding policy, advocate it in our dealings with third parties, and expect all our internal and external stakeholders to abide by these principles.

In this policy, vulnerable individuals are understood to mean:

Children under the age of 18, and

Persons over the age of 18 who, for any reason (disability, age, illness or social context), are or may be unable to protect themselves from significant harm or exploitation.

Key Principles

We do not tolerate any form of abuse, exploitation, neglect, or harm toward vulnerable individuals.

Safeguarding is a shared responsibility. We require all our staff, volunteers and partners to adhere to our safeguarding standards.

We actively promote a culture of safety and accountability in all our interactions with schools, communities, and partner institutions.

We ensure that staff and volunteers are trained in safeguarding principles, including how to identify and respond to concerns.

All team members undergo background checks as part of our safe recruitment process.

We assess safeguarding risks in all our projects and implement appropriate mitigation measures.

We have designated safeguarding focal persons at both the project and organizational levels to ensure compliance, provide guidance, and respond to incidents.

We expect internal and external stakeholders to be vigilant on matters of safeguarding and encourage anyone to report any violations, suspected violations or concerns to safeguarding@twogereug.org
