Economic Empowerment
At Twogere, we recognize that economic independence is a critical component of recovery and well-being for individuals with mental health conditions. Research has shown that people living with mental health conditions are among the least likely to find employment compared to other groups with long-term health conditions or disabilities. This significant barrier to economic participation not only exacerbates the stigma surrounding mental health but also hinders personal empowerment and community integration.
To address this challenge, we focus on economic empowerment through a combination of training, business startup support, and mentorship. Our goal is to provide individuals with the skills, resources, and guidance they need to regain their ability to work, earn income, and contribute meaningfully to their families and communities.
How We Promote Economic Empowerment for Service Users
Training in Income-Generating Activities
Our training programs are designed to equip individuals with practical skills that are directly transferable to income-generating activities. We offer a diverse range of training sessions tailored to local contexts and individual interests, enabling service users to explore various avenues for income generation.
These training opportunities empower individuals to develop the skills necessary for economic self-sufficiency. Through IGAs, service users gain confidence in their ability to contribute to the household economy, breaking the cycle of dependency and poverty.

Economic empowerment plays a critical role in improving the overall quality of life for individuals with mental health conditions. When individuals are given the tools and opportunities to earn an income and participate in the workforce, they experience increased self-esteem, improved mental health, and a greater sense of belonging and contribution to their communities.
At Twogere, we believe that economic empowerment is a fundamental part of the mental health recovery process. By providing opportunities for individuals to work, earn income, and contribute to their families, we not only improve their financial well-being but also their overall mental health and sense of purpose.
