Our Story
Twogere was founded in 2012 by Godfrey Kagaayi to create a safe space for university students to openly discuss mental health. Recognizing the stigma and misconceptions surrounding mental health, Godfrey aimed to make these conversations more inclusive and accessible.
What began as a small support group of two members quickly grew into a dynamic network of over 150 student advocates across three public universities, all dedicated to raising awareness and promoting mental health. In 2017, Twogere became a formally registered Community-Based Organization (CBO) focused on young people in and out of school in Kampala, advocating for better access to mental health services.
Today, Twogere is a nationally recognized NGO, working alongside key partners such as the Ministry of Health, schools, youth groups, and local leaders to co-design and implement community-driven mental health initiatives. Our work continues to break down barriers to mental health care, ensuring that young people and communities have the support they need.
