The Schools mental health innovation challenge

The Schools Mental Health Innovation Challenge is an exciting program by Twogere, designed to empower schools to create and implement innovative mental health and well-being interventions that directly address the unique needs of their students. The challenge invites schools across Uganda to actively engage in finding creative, sustainable solutions to improve mental health awareness, support, and resilience within their school communities.
Each year, we partner with hundreds of schools, encouraging them to develop projects that promote mental well-being and tackle mental health issues affecting young people. After a thorough selection process, three top innovations are chosen for their impact, feasibility, and potential for long-term success. These standout projects receive a small grant of $100 each to support implementation, alongside ongoing mentorship and capacity-building support from Twogere.
"This challenge has allowed our school to not only raise awareness about mental health but also build a community of care among students and staff," says Peter, a teacher at one of the participating schools. "With the mentorship and resources, we received, we’re able to turn our ideas into real, impactful solutions for our students."
This mentorship includes expert guidance, practical tools, and networking opportunities to help schools refine their solutions and scale their impact. The goal is to create lasting change in the school environment, ensuring that mental health and well-being are prioritized and integrated into daily school life.
